The last time I was under a '69 (383) RR was about 1970. I don't remember having to lift the engine. Those cars SHOULD have a windage tray, IE two pan gaskets. Are you sure the pan isn't still glued to the tray? I don't remember if I had to disconnect the steering linkage or not, but I certainly don't consider that a real big deal. You need the appropriate puller to knock loose the tapered ends, I used to use a "pickle fork." However, those are hard on the rubber seals!!
