Hopefully the car your looking at runs and is in service now. Do not buy a dead car.
These cars are very reliable and have a lot of potential. Cars are a learning thing, get a good Motors Manual or Chiltons. They are avialable cheap at most of the used book places. They're excellent and will help you a lot.
An one can learn about cars, do a little reading, look under the hood and identify things and see what doesn't look right and get some advice as to what to do.
Mechanic careers are very rewarding, a lot of common sense is used, something many people fail to utillize. A lot of people cannot see the forest for the trees.
