360 la engine question
I recently had a 360 la rebuilt, bored over .030,flat top pistons,mild cam,etc.It still don't have enough ump... I have a set of j heads with 2.02 and 1.60 valves that I want to put on it,along with little larger cam, and my main question is can I get by with using same pistons and rods if I want to put a 408 stroker crank in this engine.It has about 1000 miles on it since rebuild? Any info greatly appreciated

I am not sure about the connecting rod length but the pistons will definately have different pin heights. How much "umph" are you looking for? What are the details of your build up? Compression ratio, forged or cast pistons, cam specs, Exhaust, Intake, Carburetor, Type and wieght of car, and Rear axle ratio and tire size?

1964 la 360 engine build
It's going in a 73 challenger and am not sure about the gear ratio.The engine was in a 74 roadrunner, I drove it in the roadrunner and I bought it.I was wanting to do some performance mods before I installed it in my car. Any help woild be greatly appreciated....

Honestly that combination should run almost stock. The big valve heads will not make a huge difference. First thing I would do is find some compression. You can either find a new set of pistons that would bring you to about 10 to 1 or mill the heads but the stock compression ratio is too low. If you replace the pistons I would put in forged. Putting a bigger cam in there will make it worse with the low compression. After you get your compression up, I would put a larger cam. Something in .450 to .500 lift range. You will have to make sure you check your piston to valve clearance and make sure you get the correct valve springs to go with it.
I would also put a windage tray in the engine.
Definately the big valve heads will work good then. You can have them ported for more power but not completely needed at this power level.
I would use a single plane Edelbrock victor or a performer RPM intake manifold. Carb should be around 650 to 750. Install a 3000 RPM converter and at least a 3.9 to 1 gear ratio in the rear. A shift kit or reverse valve body would be a good mod also.
If you can hook up you will run high 12s with this combo. I would rather run this combo than a 408 stroker.

Having once done something similar. I had a 360 and built my own version of the 360/360. I used stock replacement pistons and had the block decked .050 to end up with a zero deck. also had the heads cc for 64 cc as I remember. The only down side was getting the intake manifold to fit properly
