1967 GTX Owners
I’d like to start this thread to help out 1967 GTX owners, including me. As we know, there is a lot of unique things with these cars (sometimes unique to the factory that they were built in). The idea of this thread is to put in one place, everything that we can possibly think of that was original to this car.
I’ll start it off:
-Dual 2’’ exhaust that slanted towards the edges of the car as it approached the rear.
-Western scrolls on interior- seats and panels.
-Only came with a 440 or hemi.
-Four speed (18 spline A-833) went with a Dana 60 rear (9 ¾).
-727 automatic went with a 8 ¾ rear.
-Dual point distributor.
-Air cleaner color depended on the factory that the car was produced.
-Heavy duty suspension: sway bars, 6 leaf springs on drivers side, 5 on passenger side.
-Chrome Valve Covers

"Along with the manual 4-speed transmission, you will receive an additional performance package on the engine, and a heavier drive train. This includes a 9 3/4-in. ring gear (in place of the standard 8 3/4-in. unit used on the automatic). The 440 performance engine comes with an aerated crankcase that prevents oil surge away

high-rpm performance, and a viscous fan drive which also saves

additional equipment is included on the 4-speed manual version primarily to ensure drive-train reliability."

I hope I am understanding your intent correctly, and I am not sure I am correct on these, but here is what I found when doing research for my clone that has not already been mentioned..
150 mph speedo
the tail panel, tail lights and bezels are different
the hood scoops
of course all the badging
head light bezels (argent)

is it possible that Chrysler meant that the dual snorkel was unsilenced?
Because in the shop manual, I found a single snorkel that the imperials used. So, to differentiate between the single snorkel and the dual snorkel, it is possible that mopar called the dual unsilenced?

The snorkels are a way of quieting the intake noise, the unsilenced air cleaner has an open bottom, that is the cover does not seal with the base plate, which is just about a large as the filter, taking in the air from all around with less restriction and also not quieting the intake noise. That extra intake noise is the why they call it "unsilenced".
The 68 and 69 HP 440 and 383 have the same thing except the cover is smaller.
My brothers car was delivered without a dual snorkel air cleaner. At first I thought that since the car was a late production that they substituted another air cleaner. But I have found that that was a part of the 4 speed package.

The '67 440 HP engines used one of two air cleaners-the first being a dual-snorkel unit with the snorkel more oval shaped the closer it came to the air cleaner. The second type was a large 18-inch round unsilenced air cleaner, similar to the dual-snorkel version, but without the snorkels. It's similar to the '64-'65 426 cleaner except this and the '68 cleaner are not chrome. The '64-'65 air cleaner doesn't accept a pie tin I.D. plate. The unsilenced unit was also used on '67 383 A-Body applications and some early '68 383 HP and 440 HP engines.

I think I may have solved this question. I just found a site that mentioned a "1967-71 California Noise Package for Big Block Cars". It seems that if a car had that package it would also have a CAP / Clean Air Package. This would explain a four speed with a dual snokel "silenced" air cleaner. I would think that most all GTX's from the L.A. plant would have the CAP and noise package. Do you know if your car has CAP or is a LA built GTX? Mine is a St. Louis car.
The cars with the CAP have a hose from the air cleaner to the oil filler cap instead of a "breather" oil cap that lets oil vapor escape into the atmosphere. On a car with CAP the oil vapor is drawn into the air cleaner and thru the carb.

LA built car would start with:
RS23L75 and then the serial number
RS=GTX 23= Hardtop L=440 7= year 1967 5= LA plant.
Mine is RS23L77 St. Louis

I saw in another post your car was a 4 speed, it should have come with a dual point distributor. Automatics did not, they came with single point.
What kind of air cleaner is on your car? Snorkel's or unsilenced? I changed out the Dual point for a Chrysler electronic ignition back in 1975. When I restored the car, I almost put the dual point back in. My brother had it saved in the garage all these years. They are not too easy to find.

Thanks Hansen. Yes...440 hp 4speed. Number matching..the single point distributor is marked correct for 1967.. I.D. 2642819... I have a dual snorkel air cleaner... I see in the thread CAP, is that a possible reason for the single point dist.? Is the dual point for sale...
#18
No, going to hang on the dual point. I am not sure if the CAP included a single point or not. All the info I have from Chrysler publications, Car and Driver and the way my brothers car was when it was delivered shows those items on 4 speeds. Where was you car built? Check the serial number as I mentioned in an earlier post.

The Certicard should have the serial number and options listed. That is a great thing to have with the car. When my brothers car was delivered they never gave us a Certicard. I guess they didn't want to warranty the car with a sixteen year old driver!

They have a vacuum advance, no tach drive, cast iron body. Same distributor was used on the street hemi. I will post a picture of mine. They are a little hard to locate. I think they were made by Prestolite.

Was my 67GTX Unique ?
Hi folks,
My GTX was the only new car I ever bought- it was all of $3100 ! I have never seen another with the same options, could it have been unique ? Is there any way to find out if it stil exists ? it was white with black stripes and white interior, 4-speed with no console, no power steering or brakes but power tinted windows. the oddest option it had was shoulder belts which were very long seat belts that were anchored behind the back seat !
all i have left of it is the window sticker .
Has anyone ever seen my GTX?
thanks,
frank
