426 HEMI Induction Alternatives

I am in the process of restoring a '66 Hemi Satellite. I currently have the original 2x4 intake with the correct AFB carbs. However, I want to use something different. I would like to keep the original round air cleaner but replace the AFB's with new Edelbrock Performers. My understanding that the AFB's and the Performers have different size air horns, making it necassary to modify the air cleaner baseplate, which I don't want to do. I've seen pictures of cars using the Performers with the original air cleaner and I wonder how they did it. How about EFI? Single 4-bbl? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
