440 build

OK, here goes, I'm building a 440 for my Cordoba, the combo is as follows. Block is.030 over, and zero decked for the KB hyperutectic pistons #237, (10.3 comp).Out of the box (84 cc)Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads. 1.5 ratio roller rockers, Med.rise Edelbrock dual quad intake w/ 2 600 cfm performer carbs. 1 5/8" primary tube full length headers. 2.5" mandrel bent exh.
Now the problem. I have all these parts & I can't decide what cam to choose, I'm thinking something in the range of .515 lift & 238 @ 50 duration, but the car has power brakes and only a 3.55 gear out back(which I would like to keep for drive-ability) I also don't have a torque converter picked out, I'm thinking of somewhere around 2500-2700. I know this is a lot to digest, but the cam can really make or break the whole engine combo, any advice would be great,Thanks!

I would definetly get a purple shaft cam. Those cams seem to work extremely well. As for which one to go with..... I can't tell ya there (never been real god with picking out cams for other people. I would upgrade to power brakes though. As for the stall convertor, If you are going to be driving it a lot I would go with a 2000-2300 RPM stall converter. If you are going to be doing more racing, then go with a 2700-3000 RPM stall convertor.

whatever cam you choose, pick one that will take advantage of our power range and your torque
i faced a similar problem, and i picked a good cam
i'll look for the numbers for you

Thanks guys, Has anyone tried, or know anyone who is running a Lunati "Voodoo" series camshaft?

I deal with a guy that runs a local performance shop around here and he has run a couple of those. Guys that build fords love them, and we all know about fords.

I'd stick to purple shaft cams or comp cams as they have always been real good for mopars. I wouldn't bother with edelbrock for cams anymore. Their last cam left a bad taste in my mouth. I love the intakes and carbs though.

how did it turn out?

hypermite 01-21-2009 03:02 PM

I'm going with the Lunati part #60304
276/284 adv. duration
234/242 @ .050
.513/.533 lift
110 centerline
I'm not sure if my power brakes will work, if they don't, I like the looks of the hydro-boost conversion!

how much does your car weigh? 110 seems a little wide to me for a heavy car, maybe its not as heavy as i think? as far as stall converters go heres a number give these guy a call. acc performance great selecton and even better prices. 1-888-267-7464. they will get you set up.

little late but you would be good to go with a P S # p4452993 with 280-280-60x .474lift @ center L of 110 degree ...............let us no what the one you got does for you k

challenger 01-21-2009 09:16 PM

that 533 might be just a bit much for what rear you are running and you will have to get a good stall to make it not bog at the line but like i said let us no k
