'68 Hemi Charger - Hot Coil

I have a '68 Hemi Charger - 4 speed - no options - what would cause the coil to get hot & crack - problem seemed to start when ignition would not shut off - I have replaced balister resistor, voltage regulator, ignition switch & starter relay. When the battery is hooked up - car not running - coil immediatly gets hot. Began by replacing coil, then other parts listed. Nothing has helped. Car still will not always shut off - when key is in off position, it keeps running. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks. (When I test the coil with the battery hooked up, it's showing 9 volts and I believe it should be 0.)

the coil staying "live" is your problem. you have to trace the hot wire back from the coil and see where the power is coming from without being switched off by the ignition switch.
