Disc Brake Conversion Kits

hi there. why would you want to put disc brakes on a real hemi car if it did not come from the factory with disc brakes? if this is just a clone you're building then there are lots of different companies out there. in the end they're probably all the same, just different prices. depending on how much money you have to spend, the sky's the limit.

I have owned this car twice, 1971-73 and 1982-now. The original engine was removed by the first owner. When I bought the car it had a 383 Magnum in it. When I bought the car the second time, I tried to find the original engine, but could not track it down. I purchased a brand new '69 motor that had been in a crate for 13 years and installed it. So, it is a Hemi car, just not #'s matching. So I am going to restore it to its original looks, but upgrade some things- nothing that can't be put back the way it was. I've got a Keisler 5-speed to go in, new specially made Magnum 500's with redline tires and I plan on tweaking the Hemi a little-aluminum heads, cam and possibly EFI. So, the upgrade to 4-wheel discs just fits my overall plans. The car will look original-beautiful red/red but run, handle, stop, start and cool better.
I am a little disappointed with the response I have had to this thread. I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything. I recently purchased a Viper and reading the VCA website is a real education.

hi again.sounds like a very high dollar resto.i think you have a very good plan in the works and it should turn out to be a very awesome mopar when its done.there is nothing more beautiful than the 66 67 dodge plymouths with their boxy looking body style. i personally think they are the most appealing looking body styles of the muscle car era of any car manufacturer.you didn't sound like a jerk at all about asking this question about a legitimate modification.i thought you had a numbers matching car and with something like that i personally would go with the original braking system.seeing that it is not a numbers matching car your modifications sound very interesting and in the end will produce a very modern approach to what we all know were very basic cars mechanically when they were made.good luck with your project and if you can, post some pics of it on here. i would really like to see it.

Brakes...
I personally don't have any experience with the aftermarket, or with discs on a B-body for that matter. I've got a couple 67's, and drove one for most of this past summer. I would definitely go with discs if you want a driving machine. I'd hang on to those drums though, just in case...
I don't have numbers and years in front of me, but I do know that you can take the spindles off of later Valiants and bolt those right on. If you like, I can find the donor cars for you, but again, I can't yet vouch for the improvement in stopping.
I'll have that viewpoint sometime this spring though, and will post my impressions in this thread if you want.

Hey BTK,
I have also never owned a Hemi B-body, but I agree that there is nothing wrong with wanting to bring your ride into the 21st century in terms of handling and most importantly, braking. Check out Master Power Bakes for a rear disc set-up for your B-body. You can find them at www.mpbrakes.com/muscle. They do however require the use of 15" wheels. You might also try SSBC, or Wilwood.
It doesn`t matter how fast you go, stopping even faster is more important!
