There are two assemblies that are part of the hood latching system of my 66 Charger. How were they originally finished?
They appear to have a corroded steel color, and no evidence of having been painted. I have sandblasted them clean and I'd appreciate a product recommendation to finish them. Many thanks. Dale Murray |

The original pieces where plated at the factory I believe Zink coating? I refinished my hood latches by sandblasting them and then spraying a two light coats of POR-15, apply second coat when first coat is tacky, after second coat is tacky (2-4hrs) apply a very light coat (dusting) of POR-15 silver this will bind the silver to the first two coats, after the piece has dried 24-48hrs finish with a final heavy coat of silver (operate the mechanizim during the drying process or they will sieze when dry). POR-15 is available from Imperial Restorations 1-800-576-5822 or www.getrust.com. This product is a four step process but works great on bare metal that was just sandblasted. The other option is to have the pieces powder coated, this is more expensive and I did not like the color options. My car is the 1965 Satellite (see B body). POR-15 works great for under body and other parts you want to protect from rust, original POR-15 is shiny black so they have a topcoat called chassis coat black that is a good match for flat black surfaces. follow the instructions carfully...an airbrush works well with thinned POR.
