performance exhaust
hey guys,
im starting to shop around for some dual exhaust for my 73 satellite. I would like to go along the lines of magnaflow or flowmaster. does anyone recommend something else? and also i would like to get the best price so if anyone knows of a supplier please let me know.

yea since i only have the 318 with no plans of getting rid of it im looking at making it sound like something bigger and meaner. i always hear the names magnaflow and flowmaster but found those are a bit pricey. should i upgrade exhaust headers and everything including full pipes? i dont want to do a half *** job if i can do the whole thing

Headers will help it to breath better and will get a a better sound. Flowmaster is a bit pricey but they are a good quality. If your looking for good flow with a decent sound, you can't beat Hooker's Max Flow. They flow about the same as a 2 1/2" straight pipe.
If you can't find a dual exhaust system kit for your car, then I would go to an exhaust shop and have them make you one and install it. They willl install all the hangers that you need and make sure that it is air tight. You should also look into a x-over pipe, it connects the two banks to help balance out the flow of the motor.

My '66 Belvedere has a '74 318 engine and sometime this spring I plan on getting new dual exhaust. As far as I know my engine is stock....the local exhaust shop here will run new pipes from the manifolds to the bumper, with glasspacks for $200.00 (2 inch pipes), $210.00 (2.25 inch pipes) and $220.00 (2.50 inch pipes). He done my truck last year and done a great job. Thrush has a new welded muffler (flow master knoc off) and my cousin put a set on his '57 ford, they sound good. I plan on keeping my car a driver (so no real radical engine mods are in mind) so my plans are 2.25 inch pipes with the thrush mufflers, and later if I install headers or bigger cam the pipes will still flow OK. Thats my plan anyway....

i have headman headers and there good
one thing about flowmaster, they sound great, but are expensive, BUT, they are not made cheap
i had one fall of my car (the strap broke) and it dragged on the ground while i was going about 20mph
it didnt even bend
its is made very thick

bassani... i have their race muffler on my ram and couldn't be happier. as a comparison they are as loud as a 40 series flowmaster and don't seem to have the drone during highway cruising. i have heard bassani duals on an extremely hopped up mustang and they sounded almost pro-stock.

I had headmans on a 73 road runner ounce. they went in no problem, clearance for the street is about the best around too. I had hookers ounce,. i stress ounce, never again, they fit horribly, sent them back the second set was worse. Thrush makes a chambered muffler looks like a 3 foot long bullet w, crimps along the sides. they are fairley inexpensive, and they have a throaty sound to them. I d buy the mufflers you want and then take them to the exhaust shop and let them hang them with at least 2 1/4 " pipe.

I just installed hooker super comp headers (summit) in my 68 sat with a 318. I ran dual exhaust and had then x pipe it with flowmasters. It sounds awesome and has actually increased the power considerably. For what it is worth have a professional do the work. All your welds will be solid and the exhaust will hang properly. It looks and sounds reeally tight. Not cheap, but worth it.

I went with dynomax race mufflers(glasspacks) and headman headers with 3" pipe exiting just in front of the rear wheels. Sounds nasty, beastly, awesome, heavenly . ..take your pick. I have high quality audio clips too

With a stock 318, I don't think I would go more than 2 1/4", probably stick with 2" using a descent set of flowmaster knockoffs. Not too expensive, and sounds awesome!
