1967 New Yorker

Hi all,

New member here. Hope I'm posting in the right section. I come from more of the Euro scene, and have owned primarily Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles. But the American inside me is itching to get a real classic ride.

On a drive up the 101 a few weeks ago, I saw a bunch of guys going on their weekend drive. There were Cadillac DeVille's, Lincoln Continental's, and all sorts of classic sedans. The one that caught my eye though was a 66 or so Chrysler New Yorker with a stunning golden brown paintjob. I knew I had to get a ride like this.

I just recently saw for sale a 67 New Yorker, supposedly the 2nd owner, supposedly around 70k original miles. Car looks pretty damn clean from the pics, zero rust, clean paint, etc. Owner wants $8k. I think some back fees are owed to the DMV. Everything is original except for the carburetor which the owner says was changed to an Edelbrock? I was looking at what these cars were selling for, and thought something more along $6k would be a reasonable offer.

Any advice would be much appreciated, a buyers guide on what to look out for would also greatly help. Looking forward to joining the community!

$8K is not that bad of a price, would have to be a very nice example... Check with DMV on the back fees first !!!! It could be a big mess in Ca they will screw you any way they can. Or try and get the seller to cover the fees

Hi Lynn,

Yes, those California back fees could end up costing an arm and a leg. Will definitely check that out before any deal is made. At least I don't have to deal with any of that smog check B.S!

i have a 67 new yorker factory service manual in my lap. that engine most likely came with a Holley carb. that carb was NOT as good as the over the counter Holley carb. or could have had the AFB. course the 440 only had a 4 bbl. my dad had one new. with the mild 440. we spent way to much time trying to keep it from leaking fuel.. putting O.E.M. AVS was VERY common. it had a 2.73 rear gear. totally stock did 1/4 mile in 16.50 ET. my 65 300 L beat dads 67 300 the 67 440 head is said to one of the best. the mild 440 had a 256 intake / ext 260 degree .425 int .435 ext. lift power pack lift .45 int / .458. 268 degree int 284 degree ext cam

Ya, now I remember the owner told me the original Holley carb had a ton of issues which is why the change was made.

Holly carb was OK BUT there was NO heat insulating gasket. So the carb got cooked with engine heat

NO the Holley carb was NOT ok. it was junk. dont for get the Holley carb on chrysler is NOT like the you buy over the counter. for all the time i have been on this site i have restricted my self from saying this. why O why would any one build a carb using gaskets to seal the fuel from leaking out? how many car was burned down cause of it?

Carb, who cares, that's a beautiful car, or as my Father would say "Gentleman's Automobile".

Learned to drive in my Dad' 1966 Chrysler Windsor 4 door hard top, black in and out.

If you get that pronounce it like dad did, S is a Z, like CRY-ZLER!

Looks like a nice ride to me.... Take it out for a test drive.... Try to get the best deal you can, Thats what I say....
As for the carb issue...lol... A good mechanic will be able to make it run with what ever is on it, more than likely...lol

Never meant it was a good choice. I had a 68 TC wagon The first place the Holley went was the trash can

i had a 1963 chrysler new yorker wagon 4 door hard top. 9 pas. roof rack. full power. my dad salvaged a duel air system and put it in. my dad gave it to me as a wedding present. 1974. it got totaled. rear ended. still have the grill and the head light bezels. it would eat up the high way like everything. those pre-smog 413s would go.

That's a '66 New Yorker. From the pics, it appears to be a solid, well taken care of car. If you are looking for opinions on C Bodies ('66 New Yorkers specifically), I would recommend posting your inquiry on one of the C Body specific sites listed below.

There are a lot of guys on these boards that have a ton of knowledge specific to C Bodies. To me, $8K seems like a fair price.

66 New yorker like this one?

I have this one in great shape, paid 6500 and have about 14k into it.

Let me know if you're intersted I'd take a bath but would consider selling at 7k bottom price.

Even has air converted to R34 and it blows cold!..

Chicago northwest suburbs, clear Illinois title, no hassles with fees.

It was a California Car, and I had a bitch of a time transferring it, you have to have original transfer information from all owners!
Finally got a clear title from Illinois and it's all good...

Thanks for all the info guys, lots of help. I still haven't gone to see the car as I was insanely busy the past couple weeks and had to sell my Mercury (which I just did) so now I have some room for a new ride. But let's see what happens.

@homebrood: Beatiful car man, I would definitely buy that car if it was still in CA! But alas, Chicago is a bit too far from me and switching it back to a CA title would probably be a hassle. Thanks for the offer though!

Haha yes this car probably be hard to switch back to Cali after all I went through. Anyway happy to keep her, she is a nice ride!

That one looks really nice too, I do love that color that creamy tan is really sweet.

Hope it works out, you'll love cruising the Highway in that car, feels like floating just above the roadway!
