Vacuum Leak

As some of yall may know ive got a vacuum leak, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the hose kits on hiperformancestore.com?

There kits apparently replace all under hood vacuum lines, a few coolant lines, the line from the windshield washer pump, and the vacuum line to the heating and A/C controller.

Are you sure that the vacuum leak is coming from a hose? It could be the intake or carb gasket.

If any of your hoses are cracked though, they could be sucking air in through those cracks.

most of the hoses are dry-rotted, so i was gonna replace em anyway
the carb gasket needs replacing
and i think ive got a bad head gasket because whenever i put the pedal down and park it after there is oil all on the left valve cover and alternator

Is your breather filter on your left valve cover? I've seen oil come out of them before.

If your hoses are cracked, then it is a good idea to replace them all. Along with that carb gasket.

yeah my breather hose is on the left, and it leaks really bad

im gonna order the kit sometime next week, and get a nex carb gasket

Your going to have to figure out why you have oil coming out of your breather. You shouldn't have that at all. Even if you fix all your hoses and replace those gaskets, you could still have ol coming out.

i'll take a picture of the leak one day, put it up here and see what you think. originally i thought it was the valve covers but i guess not

are you running headers on the motor and if so can you tell if the oil is coming from the header gaskets ???? ( between the head and the header)

67 GTX 02-19-2009 12:15 PM

ive never had oil come out from the header gasket
is that possible?
you would have to have bad seals on the springs wouldnt you?

340CUDA 02-20-2009 08:01 PM

Sorry i meant cylinder head, the leak is on the left side and oil get all over the back of the alternator, bottom of the air filter and the valve cover

67 GTX 02-21-2009 08:27 AM

have to tried a compression test?
that might tell you if the head gasket is good

340CUDA 02-21-2009 11:14 AM

I'll try that sometime this week

340CUDA 02-21-2009 11:18 AM

how many lbs should i be looking for?
and how much difference between the cylinders before i need to worry?

67 GTX 02-21-2009 01:12 PM

if compression in 10 to 1, i think pressure is around 150? not sure though
10lb difference between cylinders is ok

sorry i think i miss led you, the breather isnt leaking, somewhere on the left side of the engine its leaking...the breather was moved back a couple of inches when i changed the valve covers and the hose is kinked up a little bit

67 GTX 02-22-2009 03:55 PM

did you try a compression test?

340CUDA 03-14-2009 07:46 PM

hey yall, orry it took so long to reply...we put the smoke machine on the engine and couldnt find any leaks, messed with the timing (it was way off) and that seemed to do the trick but it still sputters a little every now and then, and i still havent done a compression test will soon though

does anyone know where i can get a breather cap with a pcv valve in it?

67 GTX 03-15-2009 08:06 AM

i got mine off ebay

340CUDA 03-15-2009 03:59 PM

alright, thanks GTX

challenger 03-15-2009 04:23 PM

hey 67 when i changed oils to full synthetic i had a really bad problem if you remember as this some what started the zinc thingy on here but the FS oil was just flowing out my valve seals and was told by valvoline to change back to the VR1 oils as the FS oils have way to many cleaners in it and the VR1 has the right amount of additives in it to make it work for my engine and by the way it was like a faucet turned on with the oil pooring out my headers :) but the VR1 stoped all that

67 GTX 03-16-2009 05:27 PM

haha
i havent had any of those problems
hmm, now im wondering
