Talking I never would think I would own one of these

It's not an A,B,C,D,or E body...my wife wants to drive it also....she let me buy it
It's a 1977 Aspen R/T..20,828 original miles...new radio...new exhaust...new headers...new four barrel intake with 650 Edelbrock carb 318 for now....four speed tranny with 355 gears...the only thing I might due is stroke it with a forged rotating unit and put some eddy heads on it with a Perfomer RPM intake also...this will never be a 440 car....way too much work....he aslo has the original Magnum wheels and tires that are mine....the original AM/FM radio....the original 323 gears and more goodies..

More pics...
Okay there are a few things that I will work on...I am going to re-chrome the front bumper...it has started the spider web lines and I don't want it to get any worse..I am going to order a new cover for the rear end..I'll show pics of this later...I will take the motor out and refresh it with new gaskets and paint...I will try to clean and polish the headers and If they can't be cleaned up I will have them recoated..when the motor is out I will detail and paint several of the items in the engine compartment..Tonight I found a puddle of oil on top of the intake manifold...I took the drivers side valve cover off and changed the rubber cork gasket to one of my spare rubber over steel shim ones...the valve cover rear most bolt was a SOB to get to because of the master cylinder..I will do the other tomorrow night...tomorrow is a big day as I go to pay the state their money to register the car in Texas...

no sludge....

rubber over cork gasket...

I spent $966.00 bucks today so I can drive it....
Today I stood in line for 15 minutes and then spent another 15 minutes getting the Aspen registered in the State of Texas....$966.00 buick later it is all done and I can run the old plates and only have to renew it every four years...saves buck down the road...

sorry about the shadow of my arm.....

WTF is right...remember state sales tax on the sale of a car in Texas..even if you buy it in another state and apply for a title here...most of it was based on the 6% tax...I am running classic plates and the car is registered as an antique..the tags are good for 3 years..

Got a little done today...couldn't drive the cars because of the weather...
I removed the old fresh air intake that used to feed the air cleaner.....it was a plastic tube that ran all of the way from the front grill into the engine bay by the battery..I made a block out plate out of aluminum and painted it epoxy black..going to look for some gasket material tomorrow to make a gasket for it...I removed the 42" negative cable and bought a newer 24 inch one that I soldered a ground strap that attaches to the inner fender...last thing is cleaning the battery hold down and then the tray...clean and paint is all I can do since there are very few parts available for these cars...

here's the plastic peaces...

here's the hole....

here's the plate I made....

block off plate installed...

Scored these two off of e-bay....master cylinder was rather cheap compared to the brake booster....

Got a few more things done tonight...
Got the J-hooks for the battery hold down stripped and painted...got the rear end cover painted with 4 coats of VHT epoxy paint...also looked at the rear end and saw a small drip coming from the rubber fill plug...after 33 years you could expect little stuff like that...started to strip the paint from the battery tray but ran out of stripper...will finish it tomorrow and get some paint on it also..

Went home at lunch
Since I am only 8 miles from my home on a 65 mph freeway I went home at lunch and got the paint stripped off of the battery tray..some stainless header bolts showed up along with my valve cover bolts from rocket restorations...

I will clean off the rust with my die grinder and a 2" stripping pad...

Okay....have been selling some parts to buy some parts
My wife starts getting pissed when boxes show up at my house for my cars...too many experiences in the recent past...this time I sold an extra torque convertor..roof rail seal...torsion bars and such to start purchasing parts for the Aspen...well some more showed up tonight...

a very little 440 lift cam at 212 duration @50...great for a 8:1 to 9:1 small block Mopar...new lifters...timing set and springs...still have to order locks and retainers..waiting to see how many grooves the valve retainers need to be..I will also find and build some swirl port 308 heads to help it breath better..that's all I will do...I have decided to keep it a reliable cruiser..

Okay the battery tray is back in tonight...I used four good coats of the Plastic coat spray...let it get a good dry overnight and get the battery back in...one small project down..

Got the battery in and a new trunk mat installed...
Battery back in....it's a real Mopar battery also...

New positive cable that will splice into older cables that feed the fuse box and coming from the alternator...I will use wire loom and wrap it with electrical tape to clean up the wiring on the driver's side...there is already some used on the other side...

Some shots of the trunk...original never taken out spare....new trunk mat for 63-64 Dart...a little trimming and wah la...looks pretty good for 58 bucks...old one had a bad crack....33 years old...

Trunk is done....

Got the master cylinder...
Got the master cylinder today...thought I should have gotten all of my gaskets also...this was the first time Fed Ex let me down...they arrived in Houston on the 22nd and still seem to be setting there...call to them in the morning..

A little bit of surface rust on the machined surface

all taped up and ready for some kind of paint...like the rustic finish...may srpay with 500 degree clear...what do you guys think?

fabbed on the positive battery cable a little...crimp and soldered some bare connectors..had to add a peice for the larger 10 AWG wire...I will then slide wire loom over the top and tape over it...this is how some of the wiring is already protected

Fed Ex came with some more on Saturday
Fed Ex delivers on Saturdays...that's why I like them...okay first pic of blue boots and another set of the same plug wires...that is so I can run two longer ones around the number 3 tube and number 5 and 7 plugs will go underneath that tube....

Got the NOS brake booster to...lots better shape then the one in the car...already have the gasket for it also...
