Engine swap 318 to 360
New to this stuff help is greatly appreciated !
I have a 67 D 200, 4 speed manual with a LA 318 a want to swap it with a LA 360. What problems may I run into if any? Are motor mounts the same?
Thanks for the input

yes the motor mounts will work but you may have to do some shimming with washers. Also, the 360 has external balance so you will have to deal with that. I guess you could weld the balance weight to the flywheel. Or get a 360 flywheel. other than those two things, it should be a fairly easy swap. You might try to use the same style of oil pan as far as the original sump location goes. [middle or rear]. you could use the 360 truck manifolds ( i had a 68 D 200 with a 318 and it had the 360 heads on it with the 360 truck exhaust manifolds from a 76 d 200).

Yes, the 360 is an externally balanced engine, you'll need to find a flywheel from a 360 for the swap to work. I learned the hard way what happens if you use the wrong converter/flywheel in a swap.

One thing to remember about the 360/318, is the 360 has larger main journals, hence a larger front/rear main seal...hence a different pan. I don't know if this holds true for the truck, but the motor brackets are different for the 273/318, 340/360 A body. Just throwing that out there...

I always thought that the LA motors (273-360) all used the same casting for the block and heads and it was just what was on the inside that made them all differ.
Only other thing that I know is different between the 273-340 motors and the 360 is that the 360 is externally balanced, while the others are internally balanced..... or do I have that backwards too?

some 340s had cast external ballanced cranks, also the 67 and earlier 273 heads had a different angle on the intake side, meaning only the pre 68 273 intake will bolt on, the later intakes will cause a vacuum leak,
