99 dodge ram surging

i have a 99 dodge ram 5.2 litre auto trans with overdrive and lately i have started getting a surging after i get to overdrive, it is not a miss just like a power surge, it doesnt do it before the overdrive just after about the 45mph and above range, also it will do it with overdrive on or off, could this have something to do with never changing fluid and filter in trans, i bought new and it has 111000 miles on it,would be thankful for any help

Get the filter changed and have the system flushed. The trannies in these truck should be serviced (filter and fluid changed) every 30,000 miles.

i just hooked up my actron code scanner and it shows no code errors says system is ok

mod381 09-15-2010 07:29 PM

sounds like bad tps causing tcc to lock and unlock. Does engine rpm also change 200-500 rpm?

gotdust 09-16-2010 08:21 AM

yes that is what about how many rpms it changes where is tps senson located and how hard is it to change thanks and maybe cost

gotdust 09-17-2010 07:48 AM

well i changed tps sensor and still the same problem any other ideas thanks

If you have the basic Actron [under $100] it probably wont show you shit. I am leaning with mod381 about the lock-up going in and out. In addition to the actual lock-up mechanism, there are a number of external inputs to the PCM that it uses to decide when to, and when not to, lock the convertor. Could be any of a number of sensors giving a bad reading. Does the key on-off-on-off-on trick work on your truck? This will sometimes display other P codes in the digital odometer display.

havent tried the on off key method yet thanks

Have you changed the trans fluid yet??? I've got a 95 Ram 1500 with 132,000 miles that I bought new. I change the fluid every 30,000 as 78D200 suggested and have had no problems (knocking on wood here). Be sure to check the owners manual for the correct TYPE of fluid... very important!!!
