my gas gauge will not work right

I have a 1990 dodge ram d150 the gas gauge dont work below 1/4 tank and some times it gos to empty what the heck pleas help thanks

my guess is the float sticks when it reaches a 1/4 tank

how do i fix it put a new one in or pull it out and spray some wd-40 on it

pull it out 1st and check to see why the float sticks, if you can free it up or not, if not then you may have to buy a new one,
it may not even be the float, but its a place to start,

Disconnect the tan wire involved with the connection between the gauge, and check it (run a finger along to wire) to see if there is any wear and tear along the wire. Replace the wires and make sure that everything is connected and grounded properly to check it if works.

The rheostat in the sending unit is probably bad / rusted. Get a rheostat 150-200 ohms Hook it up to the sending wire & adjust it while watching the gauge
