concerned about new vibration

hey everyone

I have a vibration question (again it seems) I am not sure how well balanced these 4.7's are but mine has a knocking type vibration that is there most of the time it is like a hammer tapping that goes faster as I accelerate. It is there predominantly when in gear and the engine is under load. If I take it out of gear or depress the clutch while driving, the vibration diminishes greatly.

I have recently changed tires which helped some of my other issues and I changed the exhaust (which I checked and it is not hitting anything.

the other strange thing was today in the driveway, the front developed a kind of shimmy - it felt like it was going through the shakes. I did have it into Dodge in the fall to check the driveshaft and everything checked out ok.

This has me rather concerned as it is my only mode of transportation

Any ideas thoughts or suggestions on what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Sean

would I notice that whether it was in gear or in neutral? I also read somewhere that it could be loose or broken exhaust stud -?

thanks

The 4.7L engine also has a problem with dropping valve seats and it causes a knock and miss-fire...Bill

and can I check the valve seats from above or will i need to remove the head?

thanks - that is what I thought - can I ask another stupid question? I just installed a new muffler and pipes - it is a little louder (Hooker aerochamber)

the more I listen the more the pounding sound is like a loud pulsing/hammer tapping type sound - could that be the way the exhaust is distributing the sound note?

I would have thought this more but I can feel the vibration in the stick which makes me wonder

thanks very much everyone
