1964 VIN decoding help
Hello to all, I am looking at a 1964 Barracuda for a resto mod. It currently has a 273 one barrel with an automatic push-button on the dash. I have basically decoded the vin number but have a couple of question. The stainless steel tag on the left front door hinge pillar post has what looks like factory numbers stamped on it, 42693274. The confusion comes with the addition of the letter and number, V4 before the factory numbers. It looks like someone took a number stamp and stamped them in with a hammer, it now reads,
V442693274. This tells me this is a, V=barracuda V8, 4=Valiant Signet, Barracuda (1964), 4=1964, 2=Dodge Main, Hamtramck, MI, 693274=production number. Am I missing something or is this how they stamped the early barracuda's? Also, where is a good web site to go to to decode the fender tag? Thanks thepickupplace |
