68 Barracuda heater box

I finally figured out how to get the heater box out, mostly. The studs/nuts on the firewall was a no brainer but I had no idea there was a metal rod, like a battery hold down rod, on the right side holding it to something. I had to take the face off the box to clear the bottom of the dash. That meant taking the glove box out but I can see the previous owner had already "repaired" it. Its trash now. Okay, got the face off and the box off the firewall. Does the heater blower motor come off/out or am I better off leaving it in place? It is still dangling by 3 wire cables. How do they come off? I don't want to have to go up behind the radio, if possible, and disconnect them at the controls but I am betting that is what you all will say I need to do. The heater core didn't look back (replaced) but the worst rust I have encountered on this car is the litle metal rods holding the "doors" in place in the heat box. Really bad. Thanks for the help.

A little metal clip holds the cables down on the box, should be easy to pop off unless they are rusted beyond recognition.

Thanks

I found the clips but the end of the cable wraps around the metal rod doohickeys that open and shut doors. That is what I can't figure out how to get apart. The worst rust on this car is all in this box and its parts. Guess someone had a leak back when. Thanks for the help.
