Its Alive..... Its Alive.....

Got the engine back on late Wednesday afternoon for the Barracuda... if you remember my friend took it out "dancing" and brought it back hurt... To the tune of a broken valve and a hole or three punched into the piston and a hairline crack in the cylinder wall... Well, a sleeve, set of pistons, head repaired, set of valves, and all the misc. parts to freshen one up we now have it back into the Barracuda... We worked yesterday and fired it up around 2 or so this afternoon... Sounds very good.... Did learn something interesting... The last engine guy installed the cam retarded 4 degrees... So this was where my enormous wheel stands came from and where I lost my .2 in ET.... The new engine guy tells me that he doesn't understand why it happened unless the other guy wasn't familiar with Mopar engines... Anyway, its back in and running... All I have to do is tidy up some things, change out the expired belts and go racing... Hopefully next weekend or so.... Depending on how my wife is feeling... But it sure is nice now to have two cars ready and waiting for us to go racing...

Shake down runs last night and all is well..... Car ran three 6.47's in a row... Then a 10.23 in the quarter.... Very pleased also that the wheel stands have gone back to where they were... Just app 18" to 24" and that is just fine..... Someone got a video and I hope to get a copy.. If so I'll post it here...... Will run the race today and check it out again....

The 60' is right back where it was... Yes a bit slower bit the et is down .20.. So, I will take what I got !!!! Remember the cam was retarded four degrees to minus four... So I think it is now set at plus three.... Back where it was... I'm pleased..... As long as it runs the same all the time I'm ok.... It's still just a bracket car... One to have fun with!!! But aren't they all that????

In that case I'm sure the .20 will be back when it all settles back in....
I did remember you saying that cam was set back....
I was think'in that was going to make more of a difference down low...
But of course I dont know the whole story so I just take my best shot..
Nothing Wrong with a foot racer.... Did that here for many years....

Would love to see the vid, if you get a hold of it....

My good friend Marty drove it yesterday since he will be driving during the Mopar Southern Nationals over Memorial Day... He is used to driving with a delay box... Leaving on the bottom bulb without the box is something he was very good at many years ago... But, had two red lights yesterday... He just has to vet used to "bottom bulb " racing again....

When I raced back in the mid 60's there was no such thing as a delay box... That's where I learned to race.... Then took the 20 or so years off to raise and educate my kids... When I began my second racing career around 2000, there was this "box" that everyone was talking about and I had to learn how to use that... Since I went to Stock Eliminator racing I'm back to where I started... Bottom bulb, no trans brake, and only a two step for the starting line... I love this much better!!!!!

We are pretty close in our sites and visions..I did about the same thing , the same way.. But I might come back for a 3rd round.... I'm not sure yet.....
Might do a A/FX car or a Altered with a 392 if I come back....I'm liking the Nostalgia Racing Class....
