Thought I would post this up. I think that there will be some changes to how the drag strip is "fenced" in after this.

Talk about final destination, I dont think anyone will be sitting FRONT row at that strip anymore....

I think you are probably right.. Already talking about high fences and possibly wheel teddors.... Someone said that F 1 already use them.... Not sure.....

The problem is, there is so much that can go wrong and all it takes is something small. It is hard to make it 100% safe.

There is no way to make sure 100% that something like this will never happen. Short of only allowing spectators to watch on closed circuit tv. But who wants that???? Because when its your time, its your time... No matter where you are or what you are doing...... JMO.....

I agree with Mack, nothing can ever be 100% safe, part of the risk of participating in and going to activities like drag races is knowing that something bad could happen, it is just a fact

I completely agree. I'd still go to the strip after something like this happened. Nothing beats the feeling like actually being there and feeling the ground shake and your ears ring.

did the tire jump the fence?
or was the women where she was not supposed to be?

More people die each year in bath tubs. Let's hope they don't go changing anything about NHRA and how we watch it because of one unfortunate accident.

I saw several videos of the accident and most of them just showed the tire comin goff the dragster and bouncing out of the picture.. But only one that I have seen show the path of the tire. This camera was behind the staring line and it shows the path of the tire. You must keep in mind that the engine at this time is turning app 5,000 rpm and the wheel and tire come off. The missle is now turning at a high rate of speed. It hits to body of the dragster while it is on its side on on the outside wall. The wheel then bounces two or three times and clears the fence and is now in the spectator area. I'm not sure what order the next things happen but a 18 wheeler, the lady and two other vechicles are struck.. The victom and all the other objects that were struck were in appropiate areas. This was just a freak accident that no one can place the blame on any one thing its just being at the wrong place at the wrong time... As I said in an earlier post it was just her time..... JMO

it was definetly a freak accident
