1964 Polara 500 convertable owner
Hi guys, I just picked up a 1965 Polara 500 convertible from my neighbor. It is a one owner car that has not been on the road since 1973. The good is its a one owner 54k mile, original paint (rough) survivor with the original 383 that was rebuilt in 1993. Floor and trunk pans are solid. The bad thing is it did eight Michigan winters before its long rest. I am going to try to get this old girl back on the road again.

Found this card in the console. Along with the key to the console. Cleaned up the interior abit.
|
Cool... Got the I.D. Card... You use to find those in the pocket affixed to the core support. Well at lease thats where mine was in my 1967... :)
Darn.. What a difference in that interior !!!!! Looking good... |
I bet those two would be very happy go go for a ride after you get her going again! Nice find.

I bet those two would be very happy go go for a ride after you get her going again,Quote: That was part of the deal, lol. I found the convert boot. It had shrunk about 6". I laid it out in the sun, oiled it up good and it stretched back out again. I've been trying to buy this thing for the past 20 years. . I went down to the owners yard sale to purchase a fake palm tree at my wife's request. Just before leaving I asked about the car (again) and to my surprise she said she would sell it. Good thing i had just sold my boat, lol. I do want to take them for a drive before they move. Hopefully I'll have some time to try to get her running in the next few days.

Looking awesome... :)

This is what I found in the cap. Do they both go on the post, or does the ground looking wire bolt to the base, or neither?
|
Points on the post....
Ground just ahead of the triangle... Should of had a very short screw... |
Thanks Racerhog. I think whoever rebuilt/reinstalled the engine disabled it . There was a nice clean gas tank in the trunk. So I guess that job will be next on the list. It looks easy enough, only one strap. But from my experience gas tanks are never fun.
|
Blow all the line out while you have it all apart.... You never know whats in that old steel line... Flush it good and blow it out with lots of air...... :)

Hey guys, finally getting some more work done to her. I had to clean out a spot in my pole barn, that was fun. I still haven't messed with the gas tank, but I cobbled up a garden tractor tank for now. Well I got some new points for her and couldn't get her to run very well at all. It had a miss I couldn't get rid of. So I cashed out for the electronic ignition kit and it started right up and runs flawlessly. Boy what a weight off my shoulders knowing the motors good. Now its time for the gas tank, then the brakes. I'm leaning towards buying one of those disc brake conversion kits for it.
She wont be road worthy this year but hopefully next spring shell be cruising again. At least I'm still having fun. |
Thant is starting too look amazing.... Great job on the clean up....
Good Idea getting it in the work shop !!! Now you have to get it to move under it's own power do you can work on all your other equipment and implements !! lol. Awesome idea.... Glad to hear that the motor runs good.... One step closer to knowing how solid the car really is..... Thanks for the update !!!!! Will Stay tuned..... :) |
My first mopar was a Jo Han model car kit, a 64 Polara two door hardtop. Had the kit several time over the years and I know I've got one unopened. Cool car!:)
Nice seeing this one going in the right direction. |

Ill try to keep you all updated. I saw this good deal on a power disc brake conversion kit at Jegs and ordered it. Then they sent me a manual kit instead. I called them up and they said the kit I ordered didn't exist ad to get the rest of the stuff I need will be $340.00 more. After doing rounds with their customer relations department, they offered to sell me the rest of the parts for $240.00 more. Have any of you guys ever had an experience like that? I just got done tooling around my yard. The first time shes moved under her own power in about 45 years, it was a blast. The brakes are starting to loosen up a bit.
