Dual Quad set up
I have a couple of questions here. Sorry if the post gets long. I bought a low milage (<4000) rebuilt 440. It was built to 1970 six pack specs and when I looked at it (before buying), it had a six pack on it. I bought it without intake/carbs. I'm running 4 bbl now but was thinking of going with dual quad (Edelbrock ch-28 and 2 600cfm). Would this be an OK set-up for the motor, not looking for max power/mpg but decent street manners and that "WOW" when hood is opened. I am planning on new heads in near future also. Second question is, am I correct in assuming that Carter AFB Competition carb is the same as Edelbrock performer?? I know they are similar but if I rebuilt both to same internals could I run one of each on this set up? I ask because I have an almost new carter sitting on shelf and was going to pick up a second one. But if I could run one of each it would open my options for picking up used carb. Or would I be better off with two of same brand? Thanks.

What heads are you planning on going with? cast, iron, alum? You can run a dual quad setup with a motor that is built for 3 dual carbs, but a little larger cam would really help out.
As far as the Carter and Edelbrock carbs go, Edelbrock is basically a Carter. take the labels off and you can't really tell them apart. As far as the Carter comp and Edelbrock performer being the same, that I do not know. I would imagine them being very close especially if they are the same CFM. I could be wrong though.

what kind of cam do you have?
make sure you cam needs it before you give it 1200 cfm's. |

Dual quad set up
I am the third owner of this motor and not sure of cam but believe it to be Mopar Performance P4529270. I have been meaning to get the builders number but have not yet. I was given about all the other specs.

also, whats your compression?
if you want the set up to work good, you have to make sure your engine will need it |

Well that Cam will work with that intake.

I ran the same intake on my 70 superbee a few years ago with two 500 cfm Edelbrock carbs, my 440 was .040 over(9.2 to 1) with a repo 375 hp cam, headers & electronic ignition, everything else was stock. (the intake comes with the correct carb jets in a little bag) the car went from running 13.60s @ 103 miles per hour to running 13.10s @ 107 , with NO other changes,NO BS! No flat spots, no hesitation, Pure balls! This manifold is the best kept secret of the Big block Mopar world. I'm building another 440 now for my Cordoba, with more compression & cam,Edelbrock heads, etc. and the identical intake with two 600 cfm.Edelbrock carbs.
