CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Second annual VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA Four-Wide Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Lane 3: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 6.881/102.51, Now #2
Lane 4: John Smith Runs 4.271/293.73, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.44 inches, adjusted altitude 2,129 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Creasy Jr. is out of power early and coast on through...Smith launched hard and keep it hooked up with a nice pass. John Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.417, 660ft-3.443/252.24 mph.

Lane 1: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.604/249.44, Now #3
Lane 2: Brian Thiel Runs 4.776/199.14, Now #4
Lane 3: Paul Lee Runs 4.192/288.33, Now #1
Lane 4: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.218/143.00, Now #5

Wilkerson starts to haze the tires and clicks it off. Thiel starts to lose traction next and clicks it off. Troxel clicks it off early. Lee with a nice pass to go to the number one spot. Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.354, 660ft-3.359/256.02 mph.

Lane 1: Jim Head Runs 4.259/254.23, Now #5
Lane 2: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.142/305.63, Now #2
Lane 3: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.211/300.20, Now #4
Lane 4: John Force Runs 4.125/301.54, Now #1

This is a good drag race as they all stay hooked up all the way down the track. Force has some smoke out the right side, but goes to the number one spot...John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.316/258.52 mph. Word from the top end force had some oil. Tasca III is right behind him with very nice pass. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.353, 660ft-3.342/262.08 mph. Pedregon with a good pass...Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.374, 660ft-3.394/252.76 mph. Head moves into the top half of the show with a good pass. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.331, 660ft-3.341/243.37 mph.

Lane 1: Jeff Arend Runs 4.316/285.83, Now #9
Lane 2: Ron Capps Runs 5.487/115.93, Now #13
Lane 3: Jack Beckman Runs 4.110/307.93, Now #1
Lane 4: Johnny Gray Runs 4.233/294.88, Now #6

Capps is popping and bangin' and clicked it off early. Arend clicked it off early. Gray with a nice pass to get in the top half of the show. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.400, 660ft-3.407/253.90 mph. Beckman with a great pass to go to the number one spot. His chutes never blossomed fully, but he got it stopped. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.309/257.14 mph.

Lane 1: Matt Hagan Runs 4.170/296.89, Now #6
Lane 2: Mike Neff Runs 4.094/303.84, Now #1
Lane 3: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.101/301.13, Now #2
Lane 4: Robert Hight Runs 5.781/124.91, Now #17

Hight lost traction early and clicked it off. Hagan with a nice pass to get in the top half of the show. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.896 sec., 330ft-2.343, 660ft-3.348/255.97 mph. Pedregon with a great pass to go to the number two spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.915 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.304/262.79 mph. Neff launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.313, 660ft-3.293/263.41 mph.

Lane 1: Robert Hight Runs 4.062/313.07, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.781/124.91, Was #17
Lane 4: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.279/282.60, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.881/102.51, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 2,237 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Creasy Jr. was on good pass until on the top end when there was a big flash and a lot of engine smoke. He gets into the show and bumps out Capps. Hight launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot and that bumps out Wilkerson. Hight with his fastest pass of the season. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.899 sec., 330ft-2.319, 660ft-3.281/268.71 mph.

Lane 1: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.111/307.44, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.111/307.44, Was #5
Lane 2: Melanie Troxel No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.604/249.44, Was #17

Troxel smoked the tires early and then made a quick left into lane No.1 behind Wilkerson. Pedregon with another good pass, but doesn't improve. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.384/250.18 mph. Wilkerson and Capps with a couple real nice passes here. Capps goes to the number six spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.304/255.39 mph. Wilkerson goes to the number five spot. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.348, 660ft-3.317/266.06 mph.

Lane 1: John Smith Runs 4.143/298.40, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.271/293.73, Was #14

Lee banged the blower right off the starting line and the chutes deployed and he stopped on the track. Arend started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off. Thiel made it a little farther down track before he started to haze the tires and clicked it off. John Smith with a real nice pass, his career quickest pass go to the number nine spot. John Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.911 sec., 330ft-2.348, 660ft-3.334/259.71 mph.

Beckman is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off. Head starts to lose traction next, and then Tasca started to haze the tires. Gray was off the throttle early and all four coasted across the finish line.

Neff started to lose traction and clicked it off...Hagan was off the throttle early. Force the third quickest pass of the session. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.297/261.17 mph. Pedregon with another great pass to move to the number two spot, the second quick of the session. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.316, 660ft-3.281/266.74 mph.

Lane 1: Paul Lee No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.192/288.33, Was #11
Lane 2: Johnny Gray No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.233/294.88, Was #13

Lee must of banged the blower right off the starting line, because the chutes were out immediately. It appears Gray got timed out, because he sat there for while after Lee left and then he left and lost traction right off the starting line, but he didn't get a time slip.


Lane 1: Jack Beckman Runs 4.074/314.02, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.110/307.93, Was #5
Lane 2: John Smith Runs 6.612/103.51, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.143/298.40, Was #9
Lane 3: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.489/298.40, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.604/249.44, Was #17
Lane 4: Mike Neff Runs 4.072/308.35, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.094/303.84, Was #3

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 34 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,653 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.
Smith started to lose traction and clicked it off...Troxel with a quick pedal early in the run and improves, but will not get in the show. Beckman withhis quickest pass of the weekend and his fastest pass of the season. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.291/265.17 mph. Neff with his quickest pass of the weekend and of the quickest of the round. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.280/264.96 mph.


Lane 1: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 7.099/97.59, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.279/282.60, Was #15
Lane 2: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.190/293.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.111/307.44, Was #6

Theil was up in smoke early and clicked it off and then Creasy Jr. lost traction and shut it off. Wilkerson was on a good pass until on the top end when it started mixing up cylinders. Head with a good clean pass to move into the top halkf of the show. Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.341, 660ft-3.331/260.16 mph.


Lane 1: Tony Pedregon Runs No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.211/300.20, Was #13
Lane 2: John Force Runs 4.125/310.63, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.108/298.54, Was #5
Lane 3: Jeff Arend Runs 4.163/304.87, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.316/285.83, Was #16
Lane 4: Bob Tasca III No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.142/305.63, Was #9

Tasca III popped the burst panel right at the hit and the chutes deployed, and just got the word there is oil in his lane so he is using up his freebie. Tasca's car came to stop on the track around 300 feet. Pedregon started using up the engine from half track on. The word from the top end is ther is oil, so this run will not count and will cost him five points and $1000. Arend with a real nice pass and his fastest pass of the year. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.357, 660ft-3.356/258.22 mph. Force with another good looking pass and his fastest pass of the season. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.348, 660ft-3.333/262.54 mph.


Lane 1: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.604/182.62, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.064/307.44, Was #2
Lane 2: Robert Hight Runs 7.038/95.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.062/313.07, Was #1
Lane 3: Matt Hagan Runs 6.222/109.80, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.170/296.89, Was #12
Lane 4: Ron Capps Runs 4.158/301.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.119/301.13, Was #7

Hight starts to lose traction and clicks it off. Then Hagan starts to haze the tires and he shuts it off. Pedregon starts to lose traction just past half track and he shut off early. Capps with a good clean pass, but will not improve. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.351, 660ft-3.348/257.28 mph.

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,535 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.
Creasy Jr. lost traction as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off.

Thiel with problems getting the car started and then does a real short burnout. He loses traction early and clicks it off and he will not make the show. Troxel slows on the top end and she will not make the show. Pedregon with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.352/260.86 mph. Gray with his quickest pass of the weekend to get into the top half of the show. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.323, 660ft-3.312/260.56 mph.

Force with a great pass, straight down the groove with his quickest and fastest pass of the season to go to the number one spot.
