1st 360 build-Help wanted

I'm starting off with a 360 out of an dodge truck (1993) there for you know its a mag motor. My plans is to switch it to a carb motor with the M1 intake I have. I have a small build 318 in the truck its going into. with a 727 build and a 8 3/4 with 3.91 sure-grip. (727 trans is a 1979).

I'm wanting to build the 360 to a 400-475hp around a $800-ish build price.
would like to know what everyone has done and what you think should be done (I dont want to bottle or supercharge it)

The truck is going to be a 3rd drive and just about everything weekend and dragged/stop light raced

I'd sell the M1 and get a Mopar Performance MPFI intake, install a good set of shorty headers, mild cam and reprogram the PCM. For $800 though..... that may be hard.

Yes, I have done similar builds.

Swap the M1 for the Air Gap and make sure it is drillled for the magnum vertical intake bolts.

Now here is your first build issue. The retainer to guide clearance on the magnum heads is tight and you will run into problems over .515 of lift. You can drop the guide with a drill and a Goodson tool and be done with it but your gonna need a big cam to make some power and that will require the 995 spring for controlling the roller and the step needs to come in to fit that spring.

As stated above the Mopar M1 in fuel injection is excellent. I run one and love it but for a carb build use the airgap.

You can hit the 400 mark with the right cam. The 380 HP Crate motor was the stock short block, heads and a cam around 230 with .501 lift and the HP rating was low. Post the cam you are thinking about?

Stock Rockers are fine for the build.

Use a 750 carb and 1.75" headers.

I was just going to suggest you research some of the Mopar crate engines. There is considerable documentation on the www about "what's in" them. 400 HP out of a mag 360 seems to be an easy figure
