440 engine build up

First of all my name is Chris and am new to your forum. I have a 78 Macho Powerwagon and I just aquired a nice 440 with stock heads and crank. I want to get about 400hp out of the engine and get the best reliability if that is possible. Can I do that with the stock crank and heads or am I gonna have to do after market? The engine is appart and ready to be hot tanked and so forth. Any one have any suggestions on a decent build up, what parts and so on I'd appreciate the input. Thanks.

What year is the 440, as that will give us a gauge as to whether it is a steel crank or not.

You may have to find a different set of heads to get those numbes but it is very doable.

There is a book out that is a "HOW TO" on building/rebuild big block mopars. Very helpful. most of your auto shops/speed shops should have it.

Look foreward to your startup! I'm checking Muscle Motors. Gotta shop locally in this economy, might be my neighbors job. They seem to be doing the same things as 440 source. Any input from anyone on these stroker kits out there would be appreciated.

You have a cast iron crank in that engine, and I definitely recommend this book: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=HPB-HP1190
