67 dart ignition problems.

Hi everyone, I need some help. I've got a 1967 dodge dart gt. Put a rebuilt slant six in it and rewired the whole car. Now I can't get the car to stay on. What are the specs on the coil, ballast resistor and voltage regulator? I want to check those first and make sure they are getting what is supposed to be and putting out what they are supposed to. Thanks for any and all help.

What do you mean it warms up and quits? Have you checked the spark when it does so? In other words, how do you know it's ignition?

"Specs" for the VR are same as any other car........when warm, and running, and charged, battery should run at 13.8--14.2, not under about 13.5 and not over about 14.5

If this is HIGH do not immediately blame the VR. Might be voltage drop AND LIKELY IS. With car running, measure voltage at ignition switch side of ballast. If unsure, measure both ends, and pick the highest. NOTE that reading, and suptract the battery voltage reading from that. There should be NO MORE than about .3 volts difference. In other words let's say the battery is at 15, but the ballast is at 13.8. That is a difference of 1.2 volts, a whopping amount, AND IS THE CAUSE of the overcharge.

The original coil and ballast specs are in the service manuals. You can download them at MyMopar for free. You don't HAVE to have a "Mopar" coil as long as the coil and ballast combination "go together."

I would just install a Pertronix and be done with it....
