I am trying to swap out my 318 y-block for a 440. my problem is that although it is the 440 model it came with the 318 i just pulled and i am wondering if i need to replace the k member or if it will hold up. so if you have any info please i need help to proceed

I have a 68 Coronet 440. The "440" is just the sub model (like 500 or R/T are sub models as well), it doesn't mean it came with a 440. Most of the 440 models came with a 318 and some of them even had a slant 6. Mine also has a 318, I have been considering doing a 440 swap with mine, either that or a new hemi. I asked about doing a big block swap on here a long while back, if I remember right the majority of them said the small block k member will hold up just fine because the 440 isn't a whole lot heavier than a small block. But you probably do need to upgrade the torsion bars to support the big block. It's been a while since I posted that, so I may be a little off. What I have been concerned about is if the oil pan and everything will clear the small block k member and if the if the mounts on a big block are any different than a small block.

The K frame is probably fine. You will need new motor mounts (they make specialty mounts for that conversion now), and a new trany sine the small block and big block bell housings are different sizes.

The actual k frame is the same for all b-bodies that year and 68 and 70. Just the motor mount location is different. I didn't know a kit was available for this swap, this will help alot. You will probably want to up grade your brakes as well because of the extra weight and power. Just a point of fact the 69 did not come with a poly it would be an L.A. 318. This will help you sell it once you have the big block in. You might want to look into a 360 stroker. Can be a great street runner and alot easier to install. Just swap one part, the motor, in a couple hours with a little help from your freinds.
