Question dodge truck overdrive ?

hi,i have a '61 dodge p-300. a 1 ton stepvan.it has the original 4spd trans.i would like to have a later model overdrive manual trans for it.one that i can use the existing bellhousing with.i know i may have to change the clutch disc and modify the driveshaft.i just need to know which tranny to use.any suggestions? thanks,pat

WOW ... you have got to do alot of comparing. Input shaft lengths, spline diffs, pilot bushing ID's ....etc.

hi,the p-300 has a 318 w/4bbl, and torque cam.this has carried me to alaska and back as well as all over the lower 48.it has 4.10 gears [spicer 70].and i'd like better gas mileage..pat

like Doc said, you'll have to do some measuring. I'm sure that Advance adaptors has something that you will help you adapt an OD manual to your LA 318.

I would look at putting on a set of taller tires or maybe a spread-bore carb ...aka a ThermoQuad.

hi.i put 17.5" rims and tires on it 18 yrs ago.and i'm using a holley econo master carb..an overdrive trans is what i need.thank you..

what about installing an auto like an A518 (I think thats the one with OD).
