New Pistons
Has anyone installed a set of .040 Kieth Black domed pistons in an LA 318? Said to reduce chamber size by 6.2 cc.
Seems like with some 2.02 valves and bit of milling on some 360 heads a 318 ought to be a lot stronger. ![]() 318 w/727/mild cam/Edlbrock intake w/650 Holly |

It should be a little stronger, but remember the engine is only a big air pump with timed and sequenced explosions inside. The more air you move or the tighter you compress it the better it will run if it can breath. Breathing can be larger carb bores and throttle bodies, larger inside intake passages, smoother intake passages, longer intake runs, larger valves, both intake and exhaust, better flowing exhaust with some back pressure. Larger pistons or should I say taller pistions will alone not hack it. Hi compression is not the total answer.
