1967 Plymouth Fury Carb Question

We have a two barrel Carter carburetor on a 318 for our 1967 Plymouth Fury III. We are having so much trouble keeping it from flooding and fuel is pouring out the sides. We have been talking with a local repairman and he suggests replacing with the carb with a modern electric four barrel. We don't want to mess with the original nature of the car or air intake, what options do we have to get a Carter replacement or something that fits like the original?

I think replacements could be found at any auto parts supplier. More than likely a Stromberg Carburetor. Rock Auto Parts, Autozone, Adavanced Auto and Summit. Those carbs are pretty simple. The needle and seat may be dirty or have some foreign particle from keeping it from shutting off. The float may have a leak in it allowing gas to sink it. Those engines were notorious for oil entering through the valve seals/guides and plugging up the heat crossover port on the intake. Once plugged, the carburetor choke won't heat up and the choke won't open. (A manual choke is a quick fix too). It shouldn't cause flooding but it may. The fix is removing the intake and clearing out the ports in the heads and intake with a screwdriver. It will do it again if the seals or guide leak isn''t corrected. A word of caution...............when carbs flood, the fuel usually bypasses the rings and ends up going into the oil. If it's as bad as you say I'm sure it entered the oil. Do the sniff test and I bet it smells like gas. An oil change is cheap insurance.

Good luck

Should be able to get one from your local Napa Parts Store........
Those early carbs were called a "Ball and Ball" They worked with the Carter Company in the early years..... If your looking for parts? like a kit and float.... Look under the Carter BBD....
Here is an Example... :)
