1970 charger RT found
Hey guys I was bow hunting here in Iowa and found a 1970 charger RT behind the farmers barn. It seemed to be in good condition for being outside. It is all compete, It looked like it was driven there and parked, not sunk in the grond or not all beat up at all. Faded siver paint blk stripe around the trunk.
I am not a mopar nut but more of a chevy man. But i have respect for all muscle cars. And would love to see this one back on the road! I dont know the body number of a charger? A,B ect.?
Can you tell me where to look for far as major rust spots, Options? Opviously a hemi. I havent looked at this car at all exect for in my truck. There is also a i beleive a 1973 charger also in same condition.
The only reason I think the 70 is a 70 is because of the metal RT emblems on the doors. Is this the only yr that has these emblems on the doors? The 73 not sure at all just know the it is a newer body style. From pics I thought it was a 73. Any help on what to look for?

Why do you say "obviously a hemi?" It sounds like you haven't really looked at the car.
First thing to do is see if it's for sale!!!
So far as options, just LOOK!!! and see what's there--AC, etc, as well as two numbers--
The vehicle ID which of course is just like your Chivy, under the windshield on drivers side. This will tell you the year and engine
Also, under the hood is the "fender tag" which will give you other options and paint code.
So far as engines---who knows, someone might have put "something else" in the car. Chrysler engines are EASY to ID--much easier than Chivvys
318-340-360--distributor in rear, engine no. just under head on driver side on block, has CID encoded into no.
423-426(wedge)-440-has distributor in front, has small rectangular boss horizontal to ground at front of engine near distributor, and adjacent to metal strip which clamps the front of the valley cover. will have CID or part of CID stamped on that boss. If it's a stock single 4, it's a 375 hp 440, the six pack is obvious
Hemi's are obvious
383-400 does NOT have the little block mentioned for the above engines, other wise looks similar with front distributor
This car is old enough that "who knows" what someone swapped in the car?
Here's a pic of an "RB" (raised block) engine, with the 413-426-440 ID boss. It's the horizontal rectangle in the rusty area, closest to the drivers side, just above the water pump mount. Once again, only the long stroke engines have this. The old 361, and the 383-400's do NOT have this boss
This is why NOBODY can ever BS someone about 'having' a 426 or 440 when it's really one of the shorter stroke engines.
Also, because the SB's have the no. on the front of the block, you can't BS me about having a 340 when you really have a 318!!!
