318 to 360 swap
ha yall who hard and what would i need to pull the stock 318 out of my 92 dodge dakota and drop in a 360? I have a car lift and a welder.

That all depends on your level of skill as a mechanic.
It's not too difficult with some of the older cars as there is a lot of space to work with. Just my opinion, maybe someone who has done this can help you. |
im going to have some of my friend help me on it.And they have swapped engine before. What parts can i use off the 318 to the 360?
are the 318 and 360 both magnum motors or are both LA motors? If the 318 is a magnum motor and the 360 is a LA motor then not much, if anything, is going to fit between the two.
the 360 will be a magnum engine. and planning on either keeping the fuel injection or putting on an intake and carb on it.
keep it EFI for better start up, better throttle response, less time dealing with adjustments. its just easier and better than carb for daily and winter driving.
do as 78d200 says and keep the efi and after installing it i would get some shorty headers to keep a little room between fender wells :D
will the 318 EFI fit on the 360
is the 360 a magnum motor or a LA motor? the head configurations are different.
The 360 is a magnum motor
as long as both motors are magnum motors then yes, the 318 EFI will work on the 360.
i have a 94 360 motor, but my friend did not know if its a magnum. Arent all 360s from 93 - 01 magnums?
92 and up the 239s and 318s are magnums. 93 and up the 360s are magnums. you should be all set then.
thanks then i get my truck done i will post pic here to show yall my truck.

I did the 318 to 360 swap a few years back in a '84 RamCharger.
I ran into a problem when I used the 318 flex plate and converter with the 360 motor. They are different or were different. Internally balanced vs: externally balanced. Dont know if this holds true on the newer motors or not but would beleive it does. And is something you might want to check out. |

I live at sea level in California and a trip to the mountains or to Hot August Nights in Reno in a carbureted car, means that the car will run rich and totally lose power without carb adjustments to compensate for the thinner air. The 318 Magnum to 360 Magnum should be a pretty basic swap. |
