440 and 727 trans out of a motor home!

i found a guy on craigslist thats selling a 440 with a 727 trans for 400 bucks, everything is hooked up and out of the motor home,i was wondering how easy/hard it would be to put in my satty! this 360 is powerful but a 440 is more powerful! any suggestions?

The way I look at things now is a 360 stroker can make 400-550 hp and is lighter. Unless you want 550-700 hp with a Big Block build the 360.

I agree with Coronet 500
Force yourself to take $400 to the local speed shop and see what you walk away with.

1. You'll have to change a lot of stuff in your car to change from SB to BB, including the transmission/ bell housing/ flywheel, exhaust and probably radiator

2 Many of those motorhome engines use special heavy duty truck heads, where the water pump connects to the heads, not the block the way passenger cars do. While you can use the block, the heads, water pump, accessories won't fit

3 many use a different torqueflite, and use a driveshaft mounted emergency brake. This means you'd have to find another torqueflite, or at least a core to get the mainshaft and long tail housing from

4 With today's technology, LOTS of power can be had out of a SB, it probably would be a lot cheaper to put a "stroker kit" in your SB than convert to a RB

5 400 bucks considering the "amount of stuff that won't fit" seems like a lot to me for a starter.

I am an RB fan, however, what everyone is saying is correct. I did this conversion and it was much more pricey than anticipated. Either find a pax vehicle 440 or spend the $400 on your SB.

Again - my 2 cents worth

Thanks for the suggestions,i think i will just build the 360 up! a 440 does sound nice thought!
