66 coronet price value

Hey guys, I had someone offer me $3000 for my coronet. I paid $1000 for it and put $300 into it. I'm debating on selling it for something that needs a little less work, considering it's my daily driver.
I know none of you have physically seen the car so it would be hard to say. But here's a quick run down:
1966 Dodge Coronet 440
California car
mathcing #'s
poly 318 2bbl
automatic tranny
body is straight- no dents no rust anywhere
grill and bumpers are great
No problems with the general exterior of the car
I have all the exterior trim for it.
New 1 wire alternator
New pertronix electronic ignition

what it needs:
paint - it's black primer right now
carpet
heater core - $37 @ the parts store
carb - about $150 online
trunk lock - $24 (already ordered just gotta pick it up)
Interior looks almost new except the top of the back seat has typical sun rot and the actually driver seat ( just the spot where your butt goes) is torn pretty bad and covered with tape LOL
exhaust - the exhaust brackets broke and the pipe looked bad, so i cut it at the muffler - muffler is still intact.
tranny pan needs a new gasket
as far as i know, completely going over the car with a mechanic friend... this is all thats going on.
Is $3000 a fair price?
Is it worth less or more?
Lemme know what you guys think because I have no idea on the value of old cars. I figured it depends on the person buying it and how badly they want it as to how much they are willing to pay. But I don't want to get screwed over either, being female... guys try to use that to their advantage and tell me the car isn't worth anything so they can get it cheap.
I have a few pictures posted @ www.myspace.com/h0trod_holli in my photo album.

thanks!
holli

if that were my car i wouldn't sell it for twice that, but that's a personally biased decision. this is what nada says (for a 4dr w/ 273cid):

by the way, i guess i don't have to tell you how green with envy i am that you found a mopar like that at that price! also, remember that these cars are one of the few things in the world today that are actually appreciating in spite of market factors ($3.20/gal, $100/barrel, etc, etc).

Ok, now... lol I found a new carb finally. Got it and put it on yesterday, things seemed a lot better. A neighbor of mine came over to help me tune it and I think ... he didn't know exactly what he was doing. The carb said it came pre-tuned to crank and idle and to tune it after warm up... it ran great before he touched it. LOL Then he messed with the timing w/out a timing light and now it's running bad again LOL. I'll get out there and take care of that tomorrow. But something did bother me ... he has it timed where it seems like it's "slow" or something @ idle. ... when he revved it like that, there was this "ping ping" sound that i did not like at all LOL. He didn't know what it was and decided to leave LOL. I think this car needs a lot more work done.. a LOT. I dont know what to do. The sound seemed to come from the water pump... can the water pump make a "ping ping" sound if broken? LOL It may need a valve job? I have no oil pressure gauge and I haven't checked the compression yet, small things i need to do I guess and should have done first thing. lol
I'm getting frustrated here LOL. Every time I find the problem and fix it... theres a new one. I know old cars take work, this one is older than me lol a 41 year old car can't be expected to run like new.. but geez... I should call the guy that sold it to me and ask him whats really wrong with it, now that its in my name LOL

Don't panic yet. Get the timing set correctly ASAP. Then listen to the car, drive it a little bit and then come back on and let us know what it is doing. Don't get scared of it yet and if you think the offer of $3000 is enough then sell it. You will have some that will say they would give way more than that and then there are others that wouldn't be interested. But all in all sounds like a very good project at a very good price.

I didn't take the $3000 offer. I really like my car a lot. I want to fix it and make it my reliable daily, it's my only car. I had some guy offer to buy it for $3000 but then asked me to lower the price b/c he didn't want a 4dr. I told him to go find a 2dr then. lol.
I'll mess with the timing today and readjust the carb. The guy did say (not sure if i can trust his words) that something else was going on and it maybe had a dead cylinder. I guess i need to check the compression. So much stuff to do, so little time and so little funds LOL It's fun though!

That'd be detonation (spark knock); probably has it 30 or 40 degrees advanced.

As far as value of the car, $3k sounds about right for a Coronet 4 dr. (except BB) in the condition described. But this is Colorado, and most everything sells for less here. What matters is whether or not you're attached to the car.

it took me three years of moaning and groaning to the parts store to get my 65 a100 reliable, but it was worth it!! i just wish i still had it...

i just received the spec card i ordered for my poly. it's for a 62, but for an auto trans it says:

timing - 10* btdc
idle speed - 500rpm
comp psi - 120 to 150 each cylinder, maximum variance - 20psi
valve clearance - .013" intake, .021" exhaust
firing order - 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2

just remember to let it warm up for valve/timing specs and disconnect the vacuum advance for timing stuff.

if you want a spec sheet for your specific year, contact johnnieeldorado@msn.com. mine was $10 even with shipping. he says they're originals, but i think they're reprints. tell him nightmarehippieelf sent you, but keep my opinion under your hat...

and remember kids...old mopars are like fine wines that will never turn into vinegar!

haha thanks guys. I messed with the timing and carb today, got it sounding a lot better. It runs more smooth now. The spark plugs looked ok, but i'll change 'em anyway along with the wires. No more "ping ping" sound LOL. I am kind of attached to it. I've only had it a lil over a month, but i sit in it and hang out with it daily, when i'm not working on it. LOL i guess i'm silly.
Thanks for the specs on that... its the same as what i found for my car online (it looked to be a photocopy of a few pages from the service manual)
I did find out that the Holley carb that was on it was a 350cfm stock replacement for 66-76 dodge/chrys 318. I put a remanufactured carter on it now though and it's running so much smoother. I'll get the broken motor mount out tomorrow and put the new one in (i hope.. it's being a pain as well) and that should take care of the shaking.. i hope LOL
You guys are awesome!!
Thanks so much for the advice!
I'll keep ya informed

Congratulations on some progress. It makes the car a little easier to hang out with when things start going the right direction.

The more I sit with her, the more attached I get and the more things I find wrong!!! lol But I also appreciate the car more, it's age and condition. I see a finished product in my head, I just need to get there. And whats up with my finished product in my head having baby blue paint!?!?!?! Not a big fan of baby blue, I"ve found maybe 1 or 2 cars that i actually think looked good in that color.
I have a huge list going now of what I need to do, small and large. i hang out under the car, in the car, in the engine compartment, in the trunk...lol. I did get to drive it yesterday. Backed it down the driveway, turned around and backed into the garage so I could get jackstands under so I can see this motor mount issue... i've been working on the motor mount like hellen keller -- no offense - I Just can't see anything down there with the steering box and k-frame in my way....not to mention the engine block itself LOL
I'm really enjoying this though, I already want another car to play with after I get this one going as my daily!
