97 5.9 Magnum Starts then immeditaly dies unless given gas?
Hey guys, So this is a quirky problem Ive had with my truck over the years...You would go to start it, and it would start and then die right out, it will stay runnning if I give it some gas and run ok. if I let off the gas it dies, but I found If I let off the throttle extremly slow and easy, sometimes it would "catch" and stay idleing.and would stay running and driving fine until you shut it off and went to start it again..this has happened several times since ive owned the truck..The first time it happened we brought it in my dads garage and pulled the codes, and it said it was the "throttle positioning sensor". so i replaced it and it seemed better, but before long it started doing it again...pulled the codes...same thing....replaced it again, now it does it from time to time....sometimes it idles, sometimes it dies...i find it strange that it could keep being the throttle posistioning sensor unless something else is cooking them...I'd love to figure out this little quirk it has, as it is annoying...thought i read something online once about leaking intake gaskets causing this issue, but i havent checked mine nor do i know if there is any truth to the story.. thanks again for all your help and time!

There is a way to test them to see if they are the issue or if it is something else. Not sure what needs to be seen at which wires though. I'm sure that someone else here does.
Did you make sure that the throttle body was clean of any carbon buildup? You can look right down into the plentum to see if you have an oil leak or not. If it looks wet and brown, then there is a leak and should be fixed. If it is silver and dry, it is still sealed.
