I just took a New Job with Autozone(brand new store in my town)after being retired for over 3 years due to a major injury and heart surgery.. I was getting real bored and the projects that I was doing around the house were costing a fortune.. Like the 10k gazebo and deck replacement on the back of the house.. No it didn't need to be replaced just that I wanted the original deck to match the new gazebo. Have you ever tried matching the rail spindles on a 6 year old deck??? So I had to replace them all to match the gazebo... My wife was like you need to find a place to vent your energy so off to work I went... It is a lot of fun because I landed a managers position and only work 20 -27.5 hours a week. What a great job I work from 10am to 330pm talk about a perfect time.. I feel like a banker with no money.. :laugh: And the best part is I don't need the job so there is no stress.. But I get to meet old friend and make some new ones too... Its all good:clap:...Bill

new job? your hours sound good. i have not worked since 2008. i stopped at autozone to get some Marvel Myster Oil, but they didnt have the 1 gal size. but O' Reillys did. my last good job was Boeing. as a machinist for 25 years. 1979-2004. i have ALLWAYS hated working wood, or painting. but if its metal and i have the tools i can can make it. i want to do a new project but dont have the time. i had some custom tees shirts made for my friend George at http://www.ampcolubes.com/ and we have talked abut an advanced upper lube system. hope the new job does good for you.

Grats on the job. Oreilly's was actually my first job. Its not a bad job. You'll get a decent discount on parts. It can be a bit stressful when it gets busy though. My biggest issues were drama (a lot of he said she said BS) and the pay lol. This was back in 06 but the pay rate was similar between Autozone and Oreilly's back then. I started at $7 an hour. After working there for a year they decided to promote me to night manager which put me in charge of all the employees at night and ALL THE MONEY in the store.. which was quite a lot of money (not gonna say don't know if I can be sued by giving that info out). Anyways I only got a .25 cent raise(which I felt was just an insult). I went with it for about 6 months then told my boss I felt like it was a huge responsibility to be in charge of everyone and all the money in the store and that I wanted a raise... and more than a damn quarter. He told me he couldn't and then I gave him a 2 week notice lol.

rcknrolfender79 I wouldn't even get out of bed for that kind of money.. They don't pay anything like I am used to making but it is 5 miles from home and gives me play money.. For the toys and such. I don't know how long I will stay there but for now it is ok.. I had my first argument with the assistant manager of the store about his attitude and he didn't like it much.. It was pretty funny the district manager told him the same thing when he cried to him about what I said. There is a lot of BS but I just tune most of it out until it becomes a problem.. Then look out,, I give it to them straight in face and if they don't like it the door swings both ways.. I don't take sh-t from anybody. Treat me with respect and you will be respected back period.. It is not negotiable!! They catch on pretty quick... Bill

Friend of mine and I are both retired. He had a part time job in O'Really's which he recently "fully retired from." He told me stories about the corporate BS, and refused to "be" manager. Same deal. Lot's of extra responsibility an little pay.

I could not have put up with it as long as he. I have a much different attitude. I don't like BS, crap and game playing, and detest office politics. I've often joked that all it takes to create office politics is a company with 3 people, LOL

That's an easy one the muffler bearing is also known as an exhaust donut... Bear with me! The donut is made of graphite and is held in place with 2-3 shouldered bolts with springs and allows it to move as the engine torques. So in a sense it is a bearing..Right..Lol ...Bill

you have been to close for to long to the exh pipes. put a big fan in the shop to clear out the fumes.

Well, I don't know if it's true, I don't understand it, but the way Bill explained it shows why he's a Manager.
