Dropping a 440 in where a 383 was
Will headers from the 383 work fine? What about pullys brackets and such?
Just looking at what I might need. Thanks for the help. |
mostly 440 and 338 can share most parts. some of the ones that dont, that i know about. distributor, distributor clamp, intake manafold. i think the A/C bracket is not the same, 383 to 440. all so an intake manifold that did NOT have a A/C bracket on it from the factory, may not fit an A/C bracket. generally the pulleys on a B-RB are different from A/C to NON-A/C. dont mix them. chrysler wanted more air through the radiator so they spin the fan faster, but the water was to fast. so they put 6 blade pump on the A/C unit, and a 8 blade on the NON-A/C unit with different pulley speeds for each. there may be other differences.

if i remember right the 383 had a 2 bbl engine, it had 9.02 cr the 4 bbl engine had 10.1 cr. my 1967 coronet book shows that both have the same cam. but i think its wrong. the 1967 440 comes only as a 4 bbl. 10.1 cr. with a little bigger cam that the 383/ ie 268. degree for the 440. my 1967 imperial book shows the 383-440 mild 256 degree. the 440 power pack 268 degree.
