The '68-70 Chargers are going for a ton of money lately, people want them and the buyers know it. How much work for what return? Pictures would help.

If you take on one of these you should have lots of tools and equipment and some skills because paying to have other do the work will cost a ton.

My deciding factors on older cars are is it complete and what condition is the chrome.

I use to drink in my younger years,
and there was something about "Grandoise Illusions".
I just looked at other Chargers of that year, fully restored,
and they were pulling some heavy .
A) An investment I was looking for, if it was feasible.
B) A fool and his money are soon separated.
c)The chances of it working are not even 50/50.

Good thing I got you guys to talk to,
good thing no one said-
"Hey , with ten or twelve grand in restoration, you could get$40k."

All I can say is that Charger is rougher than Buffalojoe's. If you have his kind of skill as shown in his thread then anything can be done but do you have the time, space and equipment.

Ten grand will get you very little in the way of repairs. If you're planning to do all the labor yourself and flip it, I've got to ask what your hourly wage will be based on your profit. I'm thinking $2.50 an hour. Leave it on ebay and get a job at McDonalds, you'll be better off in the end.

If you can get it cheap enough and have the funding.... Go for it.....

But just a guess.... Your going to be in it around 40,000... and may or maynot get your money back out of it in the end.....

Know that.... If you just love them kinds of cars and have the dedication....
You could enjoy it and drive the wheels off of it in order to get your return.

Those are nice cars at the end of the day.....

Just my 2 cents...

With the price of cars today?? It is very difficult to buy one, Then spend two years hiding in your garage working on it. Also spending $25K ON IT...A Good prof paint job will run 7-10K.. Must be a labor of love

Anyway,nuff said on that.

I know you guys, I respect what you say in any way you want to say it.
I am in the position now of listening very carefully to you guys,
you all have knowledge which I need to learn.

Call me quirky but I name all my vehicles,
got a 93 Vette (40th Ruby type)- named her Sheba(Like the Queen)
also got a 4x4 Z71 Truck-named it Thor.
Got two pure white German Sheperds,
male-Thor, female Sheba.

You can all look back to when I joined and see my other threads
when I bought and dealt with a 1986 Jeepster with a Roadrunner 383.
I couldnt figure out a generator problem because it was a Frankenstein homemade gimmick.

But, now is different.
Failure is not an option.

My Charger is due in here Wednesday.

First things first, I guess I need to address the engine first,
get it rebuilt. Sitting as long as she has sat, that is top of my list.

Next is the tranny checkout.

Then the brake system.

Basic electrical goes with above.

Then of course suspension and running gear,

and of course tires.

At a quick glance, that is about $4000 bucks, I guess???

So,

any suggestions???????

you made a very good point about Patina.
Keeping in mind all along the way to keep all the numbers right and the proper "Original" mandate in place. Once I take care of all the necessitys,
the basic life support systems to revive my Charger to a solid "running" car,
not to say it will be at the halfway point, but, it will be at a juncture.

There will be a window of opportunity for possible sale.If Mr.X ,
who will be the end owner shall we say, comes forward and wants to take it from there, maybe restore it himself to complete the job.

Then so be it.They say everything has a price, but priceless is very expensive to buy if some thinks they are going to buy my dream.

But to me, this car is very special to me.We wont talk about the price of replacing a dream. I dont think anyone has the amount to stop me in achieving the end result of making this Charger into a Legend.

So, just to forecast what the second part of this restoration will be
is really the hard work and time consuming reality of what would be required.

The entire car will have to be disassembled, body removed and each and every square inch, inside and out meticalliously restored.
Thats another 10 grand.

The final step would be to give it a paintjob and interior restore
to give me at the end of the day,
the most awesome Charger that has put the pedal to the medal on Rt. 66.

Someone above mentioned 40 grand to do this, and do this right.
By the time this car turns fifty, I will have at least 50 grand in it.

Now all this now is just talk. But, I can see, to do this right, where it will come to this.

Once I get going, you all can watch me every step of the way, I am going to document this whole project step by step, episode by epsiode on YouTube.

Its Midnight here in St.Petersburg, I must be dreaming now,
but, the feeling of excitement in this journey is just beginning to percolate.

60 hours till showtime,

My mind is spinning, and to actually read what I write borders on insanity.

I have just got to play it cool, calm down and wait and see before
speculating on any proposed possibilities.

I dont have any concerns on the funding,
worst case scenario is I spend too much, and make it unmarketable,
then I would be stuck with the car, kinda of like owning a gold mine that I had to import the gold into.
Let me take that back, I will never be stuck with the car.
If I have the option to keep the car, hey, that will work too.

If I can have a spin-off to convert the expense of the restoration,
like some kind of educational venue or value.

For example, forget about someone else doing the work.
Anyone can fish for food and give it away,
to teach someone to fish and provide for themselves,
is education and the transfer of knowledge.

At the end of the day, if I can show that I can build this car into what
is expected, then I will earn the respect of future clients.
This is my finest hour, if I cant get off the porch and play with the big dogs, I have no business even talking about it.
Otherwise, its just plain bullxxxx.

The process has begun.
I have deverted the car to my mechanic and he has diverted to his specialist.
I have no choice in this.And I trust his direction.
My Charger will be delivered to CJ automotive for determination
of what has to be done.
He told me the bad news is that if everything needs done
$3000
for complete rebuild.
The good news, if I am lucky, it will cost $1500.
At the same time, the tranny will be sent out to another specialist
and whatever, its all got to be done.

These two things I need professional work because I dont have the machinery or knowledge to do it myself.
