Rear Tires....How wide can I go?

Hi Guys.
How wide can my rear tires be on a 69 Dart? I have American Raing 15x7 wheels.
It doesn't seem to be enough space for a 255 60 R15, as the 225s barely fit?
I heard that with some work you can move in the leafsprings so you get more clearance. Any idea on how to do this?
Any other option?

why do you want to go with wider tires?

first off are you willing to change out the rims and if so you can get the right backspacing on new rims to make them 225 fit nicely .... how much room do you have right now between the springs and the tires ??

with stocko early stud patern rims 225 tyres fit with miles of room they have 4 3/8 inch back spacing . my weld pro stars are 15 x 8 they have 4 inch back spacing . ( i think there 15 x 8's it's more like 8 7/8 wide but i'll just call um 8s cause thats outside to outside ) just remember you can use spacer plates to push your wheels out . good luck let us know how ya went .

I just got done moving in my leaf springs on my 68' dodge dart with a kit from Jegs. It gives you an extra 3 inches of room, but There is a rib that hangs down that has to be cut out or pounded in because it will slice the tire if you bottom out. Also it is kind of a pain in the A$$ to weld in because trying to weld to thin, 40 year old rusty metal is very difficult, especially if you want it to be stong. But its worth it if you want to tuck wider tires under the fender well with out having to raise the rear end up.

255,s are a 1 3/8 inch wider you sure you dont have room? you may have to go down to a good tire store and they should have the tool to determine what is the best wheel and widest tire you can go.
