Trany? may gone out

Hey yall i was driving my 92 dodge dakota home today. I turned and pushed the gas but the truck would not go it would just rev. So i pull to the side of the road and shut the truck off and then start it back up and put it into gear, and it would go for about 10 to 25 yards and then just rev like before. Is my trany shot or something els

the tranny filter is clogged. don't try to drive it or you'll burn it out like i did. change the filter!

X2 on the filter change, then take it and have a shop flush the whole system. if the filter is clogged then there is still stuff throughout the rest of the system that could clog it again.

I would recommend that you use Royal Purple Oil when refilling the trans. I just put a new filter and Royal Purple in my truck and it runs a lot nicer, but was not too bad before I changed it. Look into it, I will use nothing but that from now on.

i'd check it again during the day then just to be sure.

If you do need a rebuild, instead of regular ATF, I'd use B&M Trick Shift. I use that in my automatic tranny in my jeep and d200 and love it. I used Royal Purple in my manual tranny in my Dakota.

I know, its like compairing apples to oranges.

I use B&M fluid in a tranny that needed a rebuild and it actually helped out with improving the shifting and helped it to last a few more months.

A friend of mine tried Royal Purple in his 98 ram 1500 after a simple service and didn't notice any difference with how it shifted and stil had to change it after 25K miles.

I used Royal Purple in my manual tranny and rear axle in my 01 dakota and noticed that it actually rolled better and further down hills in neutral than it did with regular oil.

I guess I'm just saying that my friends I have had better luck with B&M Trick Shift in auto trannys and Royal Purple in manual trannys and axles. Just my .02

I have been noticing in my 4 cylinder automatic truck that it shifts later then it did before, so faster acceleration. It also seems to slow down slower, coasts better.

I will try the royal purple in the manual Jeep when I get the 440 out of the back of it, and try it in the Cordoba when the 440 gets into that.

A 440 in a 66 Charger is not the best HP motor. I think it is rated at 350 hp ... but that is OVERrated.

hey M528D DOC is right as usuall and the 66 440 motor is 350hp (rated at 4400rpm's) with 10.1:1 comp: and has the same Torque as most @ 480@3200 as were most 440s--- but still if the car is in great shape and with alittle fine tuning it will be a good up and go car in MY book ---- is it the original motor that you no of ?
