1965 sport fury leaking gas
New member here, with a need of help please.
Gotta 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury 383/727 car. Originally from California. It's in Oklahoma now. The main problem is, it smells of gas BAD. And after a little investigating, the floor board under the carpet is soaked full of gas. Had the car on a lift and can't find any obvious wet spots on the tank or the fuel lines. In the trunk, it seems like there's some wet spots around the wheel wells. Also, while under the car, it looks like there's some type of oil leaking from a floorboard grommet. I'm so confused and need help. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/moparfo...23c44162ab.jpg |

I'd start with another good look at the entire full line, from tank to pump. Trunk AND cabin suggests multiple leaks. Have to ask, could some one have (accidentally or deliberately) have spilled some gas in the cabin??? Archer |
I checked the entire line, no problems.
And I did find one area the cab leaks, but that's the rear window corner. Someone could have. I just didn't smell gas til a few days after I bought it. Though, a couple months ago, a days fter I filled the tank, I walked up to it and it was leaking gas somewhere at the filler neck. Also I'm trying to figure out why the fuel filter at my carb doesn't stay full. [QUOTE=Archer;160594]spop - I'd start with another good look at t |

Just curious, how long does it take the fuel filter to "empty"? Archer |
It's sometimes empty, sometimes full. Never know. Runs fine unless you floor it, sometimes. New fuel pump installed, now makes a knocking sound, but the filter is more so full than empty.

The new Fuel pump is knocking?

You know we're just making guesses here, right? When you changed the fuel pump, did you check or replace the push rod? They, or the fuel cam on the cam shaft can wear. If the fuel filter is emptying quickly, it does suggest a leak somewhere around the pump/lines. Archer |
