727 2x4 transmission Prob's

I have a late 70's 727 and Having a hard time with finding a driveshaft. It originally came out of a truck. It is currently in a 1974 Duster and the output shaft does not mach up to the current driveshaft. How do I go about measuring the output shaft so I can get a new one. Do not know the exact year of the transmission.
