Can't find my timing bracket on my 360 in my van
I went to time my 360 in my 1971 dodge van, and could not find the bracket that has the timing marks on it anywhere. I looked on the top and the bottom, since it is a van. I found the TDC mark on my harmonic balancer, but that's it.
Anyone have any ideas? |
Some had a tab with a "loop" in it

My 383 has the tab hidden under the pass. side water pump outlet. Nearly impossible to be seen. Your S.B. might be similar if you have the same style waterpump

I've never had this problem with any engine, and I've timed many. Makes it awful hard to time without it. |
If my long term memory serves me right. Look at the top of the trans bell housing. I am about 90% sure thats where you need to do the timming check.

I will check tonight. It will be a first for me if you are right. It would make sense since the distributor is in the back and you need to take the engine cover off to access it. It would actually make the timing a lot easier.
They were at about 2 o'clock on the driver's side of the engine. It looked like they were cast into the block. I could barely see them from the opening of the hood. I had to use a flashlight with my timing light to read the marks because it is so dark down there, and I can't reach the marks to paint them or chalk them for visibility. Thanks for all your suggestions! |
