Question Hack and sputter

I started my engine for the first time today and it runs great untill I pull it past 2000 rpm's. Thats when it starts hacking and sputtering. I thought it might be timing but that is correct so I am at a loss.
"1976 Chrysler 360 In a 1974 Duster"

Any suggetions welcome.
Thanks

Cool! I’ll check that out. I was also told that it could be a sticky vacuum advance not advancing as I accelerate. Is this true?
ALSO, could it be a bad block to body ground? I used the old grounding strap that was in very poor condition.
Ill check out all these issues tomorrow. But, if you could still correct me on my other theories.

Thanks for all the info Doc.

The VA will not "work" when you are accel ! ... it only comes in on lite throttle.

A bad ground could be a prob too. A bunch of star-washers are a help there !!

OK, the fuel pressure is good, the Grounds are good and the timing is correct. It's still sputtering at 2000 RPM. It also backfires a little through the tailpipe when I let off the Gas or give it gas past 2000 RPM.

Thanks

Check to make sure you have the right spark plugs and that they are gaped right and check the distributor also check to make sure your plug wires are pluged in all the way but i would lean to your plugs at this point

Mixer ...what three things do you need to have an engine run ? ..... compression, fuel and spark.

Compression is a given(it runs fine at idle), fuel(is checked out) .......

I say SPARK is the problemO !

I am showing 11.8 V out the main coil to cap wire. The bat is showing 12.6 V. What amount of Volts should I be showing through the coil to cap wire.
I also checked the coil pos feed wire and its showing 10.5V. Is that a problem. Not sure what I am looking for.

Thanks for any info

No, It is coming from the ECU. The Distributor is electric. Not Points. 1976. The + on the coil comes from the ECU through a ballast resistor to the + coil. I also have a swich in the car for the main power feed to the + coil.

thanks

Well, I gapped the distributor pickup and it will rev to 3000 rpm. Unlike before at 2000 before it starts sputtering. I purchased a new dist. pickup. Wrong one! No others in the state. Will need to wait till next week to test it out. Dang!
