Unhappy help with carter carburetor

I need help with the secondary linkage configuration on a carter AVS carburetor. The # is 4640s. It was given to me by a friend who had removed the linkage and spring that operates the secondaries. I have tried and failed miserably at putting it back together. I neve thought that a few pieces of metal, a spring and a bent rod could be so frustrating!! I feel like if I had some good detailed pictures of the assembly, I could put it back together and have it working properly. It looks like a good carb and if I could get it working properly, I may put it on my car. Can anyone out there help a frustrated, aggrevated shadetree mechanic?

It is basically the same as a performer series carb, I believe. Can't find any good close-up pics of the left side of one on the web.
