No Ignition 225 Slant 6 PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

I am new to this forum so please bear with me.....

I am currently having problems with a 1980 B100 van.

I replaced the ballast resistor, ICU, Coil, cap and rotor???

I am having intermittent spark at the plug wires

The coil is pulsing as it should???

Any Ideas??

Thank You, Tired And Frustrated Van Owner

Pulsating?

As the rotor turns and aligns with different cylinders, yes the spark will pulsate. The coil serves the cylinders in firing order, but only breifly.
What sem to be the problem with the engine. Will it start? Does it run? It it dead?

Your question is unclear. It sounds like you are not getting an even, rythmic spark? This could be caused by wear in the dist. shaft bushings, or maladjustment of the reluctor-to-pickup gap, damage to the reluctor or pickup, or foreign magnetic material---iron--stuck to either one.

Best way to check is pull the coil wire, and rig a gap at the end, like a spark plug. Then crank, and you should get nice, rythmic sparks.

Why did you initially replace alll this stuff?

Also, and especially now that so many things are imported, buying a new ECU does not mean it works. Did you buy this from a "brand name" parts store?

if the spark test shows an uneven or no spark you might have a broken gear on the bottom of the distributor. take the cap off and check to see if it is turning and check that the rotor is pointed to #1 cylinder when at TDC.
