The battery of my 1971 383 Dodge Charger is overcharging, I have replaced the electronic voltage regulator 34338150 419, which is grounded to the firewall, ballast resistor D.PAT. NO 254186 , and alternator 60 amp aftermarket ( battery and two field terminals) Battery is grounded to the engine. None of these changes have remedied the problem. Does anyone have a suggestions of what step to take now? There is also an aftermarket electronic ignition system ( orange box ) on the car.

My manual says " the regulator sensed system voltage by sampling what was being supplied from the ignition switch to the alternator field, and used the infromation side of the alternator field, thereby controlling the strength of the field and the voltage output of the alternator. "Is this the direction I should be looking?

I would make sure you have all the right wires going to the right place and if you have the two wire fields on the alt i would switch them and see what happens and maybe it will reset its self but i would look further into the wiring let me know what happens k

just try to re-trace all your wires to make sure they are going to the right place

If the batterery is sulfated (sp) it will cause the problem you are having. Borrow another battery start the car and put a meter on it. I think you will find you need a battery.
