Tapping Noise

Hello from England

I am hoping you guy's may have an idea what is wrong with my Jensen Interceptors engine, it is has a big block 440 engine.

The problem is when I start the engine from cold I get a loud tapping noise which gets quieter when the engine is warmed up but never really goes away.

Most people have suggested it is exhaust manifold leak or hydraulic lifters, I have replaced the manifold gaskets and all 16 hydraulic lifters but no change.

I have now ordered from Mad Dog in the USA a set of adjustable rockers which I hope will be here soon but as you guy's know these engines better than anyone else I thought it was worth asking you.

The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and has only done 12000 miles since then, the oil pressure is good and there are no other symptoms.

Any help please

Michael

did you check for cracks in the manifolds? or at the collector of the manifold? i have a hard time thinking the rocker shaft being that worn, i think i would try lash caps b4 buying new rockers, thats just me tho,

Hi Bob
Thank you for the advise but what are lash caps :D I'm from England so we I guess have another name for it.

lash caps go over the valve stem to make up any unwanted play at the rocker. they go ontop of the valvestem under where the rocker contacts
