Question Warped Heads

Does anyone know what the rule of thumb should be when checking heads for flatness. I checked my heads and and the biggest feeler gauge i could put under is .006. Is that to much or is that exceptable.

Thats pretty good. If anything, I would talk to your local machine shop and see what they can cut. I would probably shave off .005 just to make it flatter and seal up better.

Have you checked the deck od the block?

No i haven't had it to the machine shop yet i am afraid that it might be bad. I know that it has over heated like bad at least four times.

I believe the max you can go is .003.... but check with a machine shop to make sure.

If it has over heated 4 times then I would check it very closely and go over everything. Check the block closely as well.

Depending on how badly warped a head is, you may be better off getting a pair of used heads.
